The Heat Project Helps Households Save Energy the Lazy Way

Going green has never been easier these days. The market is flooded with energy saving measures, devices, initiatives and campaigns designed to appeal to the green conscience of the average UK consumer. But with so much to choose from, is there now a case of information overload? Just how does the average UK consumer know what is best for them and the environment?

The Heat Project, in association with Uswitch, is attempting to provide simple coherent answers and solutions to UK consumers’ emerging green conscience.

It is widely recognised that for individuals attempting to tackle their own carbon footprint and the collective carbon emissions for the UK, the best place to start is the home and introducing ways in which its energy efficiency can be improved.

Based on the findings that the average home creates around six tonnes of CO2 a year, the estimated savings of over two tonnes of CO2 resulting from households adopting simple energy efficiency measures to improve their homes green credentials, not to mention fuel bills, are savings that simply cannot be ignored.

In order to see and feel significant improvements in your property, the first place to start should be with the installation of loft and cavity wall insulation. With heat loss and fuel consumption contributing to the greatest carbon emissions from the average property, loft and cavity wall insulation can save nearly three tonnes of CO2 and potentially over £250 on the average annual fuel bill. And if these savings weren’t enough, the Heat Project can offer all homeowners and private tenants reductions of between 50% - 70% off the cost of installing these insulation measures through grants funded by utility companies under the government run initiative, the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT).

In addition to the grants provided by the Heat Project, those who are over 70 or in receipt of income or disability related benefits are eligible to have loft and cavity wall
insulation installed for free.

Further to the savings that can be achieved through correctly insulating your property, the Heat Project and Uswitch are urging all households to ensure they are getting the best deal from their energy provider and to consider switching to green energy plans to augment their existing energy reduction efforts. By switching gas and electricity providers the average UK household could save up to £325 a year. By switching to a green energy tariff in which your energy usage is either supplemented by energy generated from renewable sources such as wind and solar, or your energy supplier will offset your energy usage or invest in research and development into renewable energy projects, you can reduce your own impact on the environment whilst promoting renewable sources. Furthermore, the more households that adopt green tariffs and the use of renewable energy over fossil fuels, the more mainstream and accessible this form of energy will become.

So, to save energy the lazy way, simply reach for your phone and call the Heat Project on 0800 093 4050 for grant assisted or free loft and cavity wall insulation. If you want to ensure you are getting the best deal from your energy supplier, and are considering switching to a green tariff to ensure your overall energy usage reduces, and so with it your energy bills, call Uswitch on 0800 404 7895.
